Summer School Plus

My dad was born 104 years ago today.  I was so blessed that he lived to be 93 yrs old & was very sharp, independent & loving.  I took some of my roses to the cemetery--really miss him.
My heart goes out to all the people who have lost family & friends from Covid.  Lots of BD celebrations like my dad's 90th won't be happening.  I was sure the US would do what was needed to minimize deaths, but here we are with greater than 150,000.  Denial of a problem doesn't make it go away.  Hubby & I continue to take precautions--wearing masks, keeping our distance & staying out of buildings as much as possible.  I have a funeral next weekend, but probably won't attend.  I may just drive to the church & try to see people afterwards from a distance.  Sad times.
Thankfully making cards is a wonderful distraction.  I've made & sent a lot of them & more are about to go in the mail.  First up is a modified slimline card--3 3/4x6 1/2.  It wasn't planned, but I just liked how my left over print panel looked with the top & bottom borders slightly bigger than the sides.
I had leftover Poppystamps Stitched Bloom Trio diecuts from the first card, too.  I just added a bit more of the Altenew watercolor markers in areas & painted them with Inkon 3 Liquid Pixie Dust.  The die cut window is MFT Rectangle Peek a Boo Window & the tiny sentiment is from PFS Delicate Wreath.  I found some enamel dots that were just the right colors, so finished off with them.  I'm entering Poppystamps August Challenge: Heat Wave.  These are definitely warm, summery colors in my book.  I'm also entering SSS Wednesday.

Next is a 50th wedding anniversary card for a lady I used to work with.  We had lots of fun times at their house playing games late into the night.  My Spellbinders Small Die of the Month kit arrived just in time.
I used gold adhesive backed cardstock for the frame & tiny flowers.  The flowers were actually cut from some of the pieces that pop out of the delicate frame die cut.  Can't waste that expensive gold paper--haha!  The leafy branches from The Stamp Market were die cut from 2 green scraps & I switched the inside pieces.  The sentiment from HA is stamped in brown ink on the vanilla card.  I don't like a card to be too girly when it's for a couple.  Hopefully they'll both like this one.  I entered SSS Wednesday via IG & I'm also entering The Snippets PlaygroundWAW.

MFT Summer School is back!  Here's the card I made for Day 1: Visual Triangle.  I used my favorite MFT stamp set called Brilliant Butterflies.  The colors are from MFT Color Challenge 146.  I used these inks:  PTI Berry Sorbet & Lovely Lady, Altenew Dew Drops & Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate.
Decided to keep it clean & fresh, so just added white Pico Embellisher dots & mounted the panel with fun foam to a white card.  The die cut sentiment is MFT Block Happy Birthday which I stacked 3 high.  The top layer of letters were inked with Pearlescent Chocolate.  I'm also entering SSS Monday & SSS Wednesday.

Here's my card for MFT Summer School Day 2: Rainbow.  Decided to go for a more pastel rainbow & in reverse order.
I silver embossed MFT Geometric grid & then sponged on DO broken china, cracked pistachio, squeezed lemonade, spiced marmalade & worn lipstick.  After I trimmed it to the size I wanted, I brushed the panel with a shimmer pen--so pretty in person.  I got a pack of several thin rolls of Washi last year & finally opened it.  The silver was just what I needed for the edge of my panel.  The white embossed sentiment from MFT Totally Happy was die cut with a PTI die & mounted with fun foam.  Thought about splatters, but instead just added some dots of silver Stickles.  I'm also entering SSS Wednesday.

Thanks so much for taking time to stop by.  I'm constantly behind in blog reading these days.  If your blog address is in your profile or comment, I will visit you as soon as I can.

  1. PRETTY cards Greta! The second is my favorite with the elegant gold die cut and those pretty leaves! Yes, these are very tough and sad times. We have distanced patio visits with my parent every weekend. My mom said they really help to lift her spirits. Stay well my friend.

  4. A wonderful variety of cards today, some of which I've seen on Instagram. I love the anniversary and butterfly HB cards - so fresh and modern. Your dad's photo is great. Jim's mom would have been 102 today. She's been gone now for 5 years. Keep up your protocols. Can't be too safe right now.

  5. Oh my goodness Greta, we have previously spoken about similarities of our dear Dad's, but I can't believe that they also shared the same Birthday, mine would have been 98 yesterday and like yours is missed every day. My Mum also had an August Birthday and ironically died just weeks before him although Dad never knew, he was poorly and medics decided nothing would be gained by telling him as they were estranged.

A beautiful selection of cards as always.

  9. You have been a busy gal and that'a a good thing. These are all gorgeous and inventive. I love how you added the colors to the flower and what a great bloom it made. The leaf card is elegant with the gold on it and those butterflies are so pretty. What a stunning rainbow in those soft colors. How lucky you had your dad for so long and he was sharp. That is such a blessing. It's a new world and I'm glad you are staying safe.

  13. How wonderful that you are able to remember your dear Father with such love. I like the watercolour background for your bloom on the first card. The Anniversary card is perfect with the leaves and touches of gold. The brilliant butterflies make me smile; they are so pretty and such an modern looking shape. Finally your rainbow card is crisp and clean with the delicate silver embossing. 4 beautiful cards, to inspire and delight. Thanks for sharing. Like you, we are keeping away from people during the CV crisis. I've been distracting myself with craft too. I've made 90 cards for my friend's fundraiser and hope to crack the 100 today.

  15. I'm sure your Dad will be looking in on you whilst celebrating in style... I'm with you on being very cautious and will continue to be so. All your cards are beautiful and all so different.. Thinking of you and sending cyber hugs (with a mask on of course) LOL!!

  16. How wonderful to have your Dad for so long. He looks a lovely man. I'm cautious too, I believe we have to be for quite a while yet. I heard that the 1918 pandemic lasted 3 years. Maybe this will be the same unless people take more care.

Your cards are amazing as always, so different but all so very beautiful Greta.

  17. All lovely cards and very unique, Greta! Love the leaf card with the gold! It has a great design and so pretty the the gold! Beautiful butterfly card, too! I’m trying very hard to hold back from buying that stamp set, lol! I am happy that Ohio went to all mask mandate. Although, I still see some people not wearing their masks, but at least more are doing so. I do worry how the schools are going to open here with the virus. We will see how it goes. Trying times for sure! Take care, hugs!!

  18. What a great post, Greta, starting off with that wonderful photo of your father! He looks so dapper and I'm sure you miss him terribly. I'm with you on the state of the world. Crazy times, crazy people.

Your four cards are absolute works of art, my friend! I'm wowed by each one! I think my favorite is the 50th anniversary card, much as I love watercoloring. It is so striking! Although that last one with the silver embossing and soft pastel rainbow blending is divine, and the butterfly des ... Keep well! Hugs, Darnell

  21. Beautiful cards Greta - especially your snippets one. I did smile about you not wasting sny of the gold paper - if it shines, it's even more precious isn't it! What a lovely photo of your dear Dad. Both my parents died when they were quite young, a long time ago. Yet I miss them still. In some ways though, I would hate for them to be going through the current situation. It's certainly a crazy world right now. Stay safe my friend.

    Hugs

    Di xx
