Sympathy Card

Unfortunately, I had to make a sympathy card for hubby's granddaughter. We're so grateful she made the trip when she did even though the baby was so young as I know it's helping her work through the grieving process.  I want my sympathy cards to be simple but beautiful--not at all showy.  As I was looking for inspiration, I came across these cards done by Elizabeth Allen that I had in my Flickr Favorites.  My card is nothing like these, but they did inspire me to use a small watercolored background with a dark image on top going beyond the colored area.  I began by brushing plain water onto the watercolor paper.  I tapped Distress Inks bundled sage, pumice stone & weathered wood onto an acrylic block & used my water brush to add them to the paper.  The floral image is from Penny Black's Illumination set & is stamped in Versafine Smokey Gray. I added a thin green mat & mounted it to a card made from PTI Vintage Cream cardstock.  The sentiment is from PTI Through The Trees.  On the inside I used this Verses stamp of Flavia's quote.  I bought this stamp as soon as I saw it knowing it's one I would use.  I loved Flavia years ago & even had checks with her quotes.  This will be another entry in The Wonder of Watercolor Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. MFW Tuesday Trigger

We have a wonderful inspiration card by Ardyth for this week's Muse challenge. I really like the rainbow of 5 different colors, the embossed sentiment matching the card base & the CAS design.  I was still working on Easter cards & loved the Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger with the pretty pastels, so my inks are 5 favorites by Brilliance.  To keep with the really fun nature of this card, I used the somewhat funky images from Stampendous! Bold Blossoms set.  Decided gray was a better choice than black with my colors, so that's what I used for the card & the sentiment.  Now that sequins are in I randomly added some clear ones & put a tiny pearl in each center.  Thanks for coming by--your comments always brighten my day.

Moxie Fab World Challenge

This card isn't going very far, so I still have time to mail it.  I'm not very good at using my printed papers--maybe that's why I have so many stacks of it!  I got several of the coordinating sheets of Flower Patch by MM a couple years ago & I had used a little.  Decided it's time to use it again--love these soft prints.  I started by die-cutting the eggs with my Memory Box dies & purposely placed the die so I would have panels with the negative die cut that I could use.  The filigree layer is cut from the pink dotted paper & is sprayed with Therm-O-Web Glimmer Mist--can't tell in the picture.  The twine is Martha Stewart & the sentiment is Inkadinkado.  I'm entering the Moxie Fab World Emphasize the Negative challenge.  Thanks for stopping by.  I so appreciate your support.

I recently bought several new Impression Obsession stamps & I'm using 2 of them, along with a sentiment stamp I already had, for my card to enter the IO Happy Fall Y'all challenge.  Since I made a burlap mat with a design (removed some strings from all 4 sides for the wider rows) I'm also entering the Canvas, Cork & Burlap Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.  I started by stamping the Screen Cover-a-Card background CC049) in Memento Peanut Brittle on Kraft cardstock.  Then I inked the cling Brush Tree (E7690) with some Memento inks & spritzed it with Tsukineko's Shimmer Spritz Copper & stamped over the background.  The copper obscured the colors except you can see a little of the Northern Pine.  I decided I liked it, even though it wasn't the look I had in mind.  When it dried I over-stamped the tree using Versafine Vintage Sepia to give a little more definition to the water-color affect.  It doesn't look so blurry in real life.  I cut the image with a narrow border & roughed the edges with my fingernail.  The sentiment (B8182 Blessings) is stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on a left over piece of the background & again the edges are roughed.  The pieces are matted with black cardstock & attached with foam tape.  I finally had a project where I could use this thin, black suede trim I bought long ago.  Finished off with some black pearls.  Thank you for visiting my blog & if you're in the US I wish you & your family a blessed Thanksgiving.

It's almost a week since my last post, but in case anyone remembers--I'm happy to report there is no sign of the Memento Elderberry flower on my white jeans--hurrah for bleach!
I did get a card made for the Moxie Fab World Asymmetry Challenge.  
I was inspired by this beautiful card made by Julie Koerber.  

I used my new Cuttlebug Geometric Rings embossing folder on the top of a kraft panel & scored vertical lines at the bottom.  The edges are swiped with Memento Peanut Brittle & yellow trim attached to brown ribbon is secured where the 2 designs meet.  The panel is attached with foam tape to the front of the kraft card.  I wanted to use the bird image from Flourishes Snow Wonderful set, but I wanted a circle image.  Then it hit me--punch out what I need with a circle punch!  Love "stretching" my stamps, which I usually don't figure out to do--LOL!  The image is colored by sponging on these inks: Brilliance Pearlescent Ivy & Chocolate, Memento Peanut Brittle & Morocco & Color Box Canary.  A slightly larger scalloped circle is punched from green cardstock.  I mounted the image with thick foam tape over the ribbon & added the 2 green Maya Road stick pins (darkened the green with a COPIC) by sticking them into the foam tape--trick I read somewhere.  The sentiment by Impression Obsession is stamped with Pearlescent Ivy, edged with Peanut Brittle & added to the left top of the card for balance, but I'm not sure if it's exactly right.  I do like this card, though, & now I have another Thanksgiving card made--yah!

As some of you know, hubby & I recently celebrated our 33rd anniversary.  Here's a picture of us at the marina after a day of boating.  Very appropriate, as we were also at a lake 33 years ago saying our vows as we looked out over Lake Tahoe.  Thanks for coming by.  Enjoy your weekend!

Black, White, Rose

I've wanted to play along with a Simon Says Stamp challenge, so decided the current Anything Goes (with DT using Hero Arts) was a good time to do it.  I had layering in mind when I bought the Hero Arts Circle Design stamp a long time ago.  The image is stamped in VersaFine Onyx Black 3 times.  Each image is die cut with Spellbinder's circles & is lined up & attached with foam tape.  Took awhile to line them back up as I failed to keep them all in the same position as I cut them--live & learn--LOL!  I saved the doilies that came under our soup bowls at a local restaurant & love how it mats the image.  The rose is MFT mini rolled roses cut out of their English Rose felt.  The sentiment is also Hero Arts from the Find Joy clear set & is stamped with Distress Ink victorian velvet.  Sheer black ribbon, black pearls & tiny pink gems finish off the card.

 I'm also entering the Moxie Fab World Focal Point Challenge. My sis has a birthday coming up, so this might go to her.  Hope you're enjoying the weekend & thank you for stopping by my blog.

Be Merry

My plan this year is to have most of my Christmas cards done in time to write in them over Thanksgiving weekend.  Of course, I've had that plan before--LOL!  This year it's looking like I might finally do it!  I've had the Mega Merry clear set by Stampendous! for some time & had in mind stamping "Merry" on printed paper.  So glad I finally got around to doing it--love the look!  I used papers from the K&Co wintertide pad I got in a clearance sale.  "Be" & the little ornament are done with Distress Ink pine needles which is also sponged on the letters & the mat that is cut with Spellbinders Curved Rectangles.  The little snowflake image is stamped in Distress Ink wild honey on the mat & card front & it's sponged on the card edges.  All the sparkle is from a Sakura Clear Star pen--wouldn't be without it!  The letters are popped up & the ornament is attached to the "y" with yellow floss & then popped up higher.  Love making shaped cards since I learned to score the top of the back diecut & just add glue.  I didn't like the way I first learned where you loose part of the shape where they are attached.  I'm entering the Stampendous!
