Masculine and Feminine Cards

Didn't quite finish these cards last night, as I twisted my ankle & fell going down the small step from the kitchen to the living room.  Talk about feeling dumb!  We've lived in this house over 25 years & I take that step 100 times a day!  I immediately iced it & am so fortunate it's already way better & only my ankle was hurt.  Hubby says I need to stop walking so fast & I guess he's right.  It's a lifelong trait which I blame on keeping up with my dad's long legs when I was a kid.  Anyway, today I finished up cards using SSS products.
First is my 5th entry for the SSS Wednesday Challenge & it's a BD card for my cousin.  He always answers the phone with "greetings" instead of saying hello.
My last SSS order included a free gift--the die set Trees and Trunks which must be retired.  I immediately thought it'd be great for a masculine card.  There are lots of dies in the set & I'm going to have fun using them.  For this card I blended DI vintage photo & frayed burlap for the trunk and crushed olive & peeled paint for the top.  I added splatters & then blended a bit more ink to soften the look.  The background is faded jeans & tumbled glass blended onto the linen card with a brush.  The sentiment from SSS Thoughtful Messages (one of my favorite sentiment sets) was stamped in Hero Arts Cup 'O Joe.  Dug out a very old corner punch I bought specifically for masculine cards to finish it off.  I'm also entering SSS Flickr Challenge #94 & Flickr Love Handmade Cards.

Next is my feminine friendship card using SSS Heart Mandala stencil with DO inks worn lipstick, picked raspberry & abandoned coral--blended from the center outward on glossy cardstock.
Pink & gray is one of my favorite color combos & I had a scrap of gray textured cardstock that was just the right shade for the mat & SSS Painted Hugs sentiment die.  The word is stacked 3 high & covered with Nuvo Glaze.  I didn't want to cover much of the beautiful stenciled image, but needed something else.  One of my many paper flowers came to the rescue.  It had the gem & was white--ready to color.  I blended on the same 3 inks & added some white dots & Wink of Stella.  Decided the circle needed to be mounted with foam tape.  Can't make every card flat--haha!  Speaking of friendship cards--check out the Card Chain Challenge.  I've participated for years sending & receiving a card each month.  You don't have to make a new card--send one that's in your stash if you want.  There's even a gift certificate from Taylored Expressions up for grabs this time.  I'm entering SSS Flickr Challenge #94.

  4. I'm so sorry you fell and twisted your ankle but glad you iced it right away to keep down the swelling. Your cards are great. It's so fun to get a nice surprise in your order and you used it well. I love the female card and I need to remember to get my flowers out and use them. In the future, please try to remember that the step is there when you come out of the kitchen!! I know about walking fast. I have had to slow down and walk and do things slower. It has sure helped me.

  5. Oh Greta,
So sorry to read about the fall. Glad the icing helped. Its good to know what to do in those situations.

Your cards are fabulous, that tree die set was a good one - I got a winter set - but its not as useful without the matching stamp set.

Love the bit of inking behind the tree and those corner notches. Your feminine card is lovely...who can resist those pinks and your flower looks meant to be. Great alteration.

  18. Sorry to hear about your fall, Greta! I hope your ankle is feeling much better! It's so easy to slip when your mind is on other things. Your cards are lovely! Your first card is perfect for your cousin with the beautiful tree. I'm sure he's appreciate it. And, your second card has a lovely color combo with gray and pink! Gorgeous stenciled background, too! Take care and rest up with the ankle! Hugs!

  19. I love your sweet cards, Greta, but I'm so sorry to hear about your twisted ankle! The one I always "walk off" is the step from the house down into the garage so I know what you mean about feeling dumb considering we do it so often, lol! For me, it's over 40 years of living in the same house! And you may remember we have a single step down to the entry by the front door. I've never twisted my ankle there, but we have certainly had lots of visitors do it which is awful! Anyway, I hope it didn't turn into anything over than a slight sprain and you are back up and walking fast again!! Hugs, Darnell
