JUGs GD Take 5

Hard to believe--March is almost over!  It's time for my last card as the Guest Designer at JUGs.  This week the challenge is embossing folders--something I love.

I resisted getting a die cutting machine when they first became available, as I thought dies were too expensive.  However, I've always loved dry embossing.  My local stamp store showed me how the machines work with embossing folders which cost a lot less than most dies.  That did it--got a machine when I saw one for 1/2 price & said "I'm only using it for embossing."  Famous last words--haha!  That same store had a sample with a stamped panel that was also embossed.  I still love that look, so brought it back for this card.

I stamped images from PTI Meadow Greens & Gathered Garden using PTI inks Simply Chartreuse, Ripe Avocado, Spring Moss, Limeade Ice & Cocoa Bean.  The embossing folder is from a WRMK set of 2 that I got for $4 at Tuesday Morning long ago.

Green & gold is one of my favorite color combos, so had to use my Distress Stain burnished brass to add splatters & little streaks.  Nice to have a card that works for a guy or a gal.  I'm entering SSS Wednesday & WAW.

  1. Perfect combo of stamping and embossing Greta. I've got over a 100 folders now... just love using embossing on my cards when I can. Always a great way to add some texture.

  2. What a gorgeous card! I love the look of dry embossed stamping! (Your story sounds familiar -- I was one of those who resisted getting a die cutting machine as well, and for the same reasons! Now I use it ALL the time!)

  4. Very pretty card and I like the touches of gold. There are always so many new products coming out you don't really know what you want at first. I have to see things made with it before I can decide if I NEED it. And then, of course, I need it!

  9. I sometimes forget about my embossing folders! I have so many and they do look good on cards! Maybe I should pull some out to design with them! Your card is wonderful! I love that it has a masculine look but can also be for a female! Very pretty! Have a great weekend!

  11. I had to laugh as I almost said the same thing when die cutting came into being. But now I am into it big time as well as loving the dry embossing. Your card you made is so gorgeous and I love those beautiful leafy ferns on it.

  13. Green is my favorite colour, Brenda, and it is wonderful with gold. I love your beautiful card, my friend.
And: I completely understand your thinking not to buy a cutting machine. I did the same thing until I realized that I really needed a Big Shop. And when I bought it, I left it in no use for more than 6 months! Do you believe it? Of yes, it is true. Only recently I decided that I love use it for embossing and die cutting.
But I still resist in trying dry embossing! I do not like using the heat gun! But I am sure that one day (maybe soon) I will chance my mind.
    Hugs, sweetie!

  14. Such a pretty and versatile card Greta and I love the green and gold; the colours our athletes wear on the world stage. The fern is so delicate and pretty and I had a smile about resisting the die cuts!

  17. I never think of inking and then embossing for the background of a card. It makes it very eye catching and interesting. Wonderful lovely greenery and touch of gold, too! A very pretty card, Greta!

  19. Greta that is so on point! I remember thinking the same thing! It took me a loooong time to finally cave in and buy a machine, and then the rest is history of course! Sadly, since I started die-cutting, my dry embossing has taken a back seat, but I've been experimenting with different ways to add it back into my repertoire, and your card inspires me so much! Absolutely beautiful!
