Celebrate Life

Good thing hubby's daughter & son-in-law are coming here tomorrow.  Otherwise the housework would be put off again--haha! Rewarded myself for working yesterday by bringing home dinner & then finishing up 2 cards.  I really am in retirement mode so going to work, even occasionally, is hard.  I know you're feeling sorry for me--haha!
First up is my Color Isolation card for PTI MIM. One of my first PTI sets was Year of Flowers Collection which I bought mostly to use for backgrounds. The rose is stamped in Soft Stone on white cardstock.  For the focal point & sentiment I used The Sweet Life stamps & dies. It's fun to see what colors you get when the layers include a solid image.  I used Sweet Blush, Lemon Tart & Autumn Rose with Limeade Ice & Simply Chartreuse for the leaves.  Finished off with PPP Sparkling Clear sequins. I'm also entering Stamping Sensations.

gayatri_Happy card #1
Next is another card for the Winnie & Walter Share the Love Week with Pinkfresh Studio. This time I was inspired by Gayatri's card on Day 4. The Pinkfresh collection is very fresh & modern & a challenging style for me!  I saw the SSS Hello, Beautiful stamp set in my newly acquired box & decided to try using some of the fun images to CASE the paper.
I used VersaMagic Pixie Dust, Sea Breeze & Mango Madness along with PTI Soft Stone. Gotta admit--it was a fun way to stamp & I want to try it again. The bottom strip is Hero Arts Large Plaid Background & the word die cut is from W&W The Big, The Bold & The Happy sent by my friend, Cat.  I inked it with the pink & brushed on WOS.  I've had the stickers forever & finally used some.  My punches are mostly ignored, but luckily I had the perfect little heart to make my own embellishment. It's 3 layers, inked with the Mango & covered with Diamond Glaze. Finished off with lots of little PPP Marshmallow sequins.  So happy I went outside my comfort zone & found I could do this style of card--once anyway!  I'm also entering at SSS Flickr (Springy colors), SSS WednesdaySSS Work It Wednesday & Die Cut Divas. Thanks so much for taking time to stop by.

Winnie & Walter Challenges

share the love graphic pinkfresh

I had such fun making cards for the Winnie & Walter Birthday Bash using my In a Word: Hello die.  Mr. Random didn't pick any of them, but luckily, there's a new W&W challenge: Share the Love Week Featuring Felicity by Pinkfresh Studio. There are 5 days & you don't even have to use W&W or Pinkfresh to enter. Here are my cards for 3 of the days.
vanessa_sharetl
I was inspired by Vanessa's Day 2 card.  Last year I won the Pinkfresh Christmas Wishes paper pack which includes a beautiful blue geometric pattern.  I used Vanessa's layout for a card I'll send when the recipient is not expecting it.
My friend, Cat, often sends me die cuts & the last envelope included this hello from W&W The Big, The Bold & the Happy. The stitched dies are Lil' Inker & Lawn Fawn, the flowers are MFT & the leaves are Penny Black. Finished off with PPP Marshmallow sequins.  I'm also entering Word Art Wednesday.
lydia_DSC07436Next up, Day 3.  I really loved Lydia's card using the leaf cutaway (on my wishlist!) over printed paper & a sentiment strip across the bottom. Decided the PTI Hexagon cover plate would work over another of the PF Christmas papers & have to say I love it!
The sentiment is by A Muse & the trees on either side are from the part of the paper I cut off.  I added Stickles & matted it to another piece from the paper pack which I cut with MFT pinking edge die.  The clear dots are PPP.  I'm also entering The Playground.
kate_IMG_6989Last is my card inspired by this Day 5 jaw-dropper Kate made! I've been wanting to try Gina K's embossing over watercolor technique & I'll definitely try it again.  I used images from Verve New Beginnings & the sentiment from Verve Simply Amazing & Amazing Adjectives dies--a gift from a very generous blogging friend.
The white panel was die cut with a PPP stitched border & the die cut word was heat embossed.  Loved using my mini MISTI to get the sentiment arranged. Again PPP clear dots provide the embellishment.  I'm also entering TwofersDie Cut Divas, SSS Monday, SSS Wednesday & Penny Black & More
Working tomorrow & have company Saturday, but still hope to make a few more before the deadline.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Guest Designing for OLCCC

I'm honored to have won the One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #11 which gave me the opportunity to Guest Design today for OLCCC #29.  I used one of my favorite layouts for one layer cards and again used the Faux Mother of Pearl technique.  After masking an area on my card front, I used cling wrap to pounce on Ocean Blue Liquid Pearls.  It dried very quickly & then I sponged on VersaMagic Ocean Depth.  This beautiful 2010 Hero Arts snowflake is one of my favorite stamps & I silver embossed it after removing the masking tape.
Noel is from HA 2011 Merriest Christmas Wishes & I finished off with some splatters of Distress Stain Brushed Pewter. Love having a pretty card to mail that doesn't need extra postage!

I'm entering the CAS challenge at ABNH,  Anything Goes at One Layer SimplicityStamplorations Theme  (splatters) & Sketch & Word Art Wednesday. Thanks so much for taking time to stop by.

The Challenge Guest Designer

I'm honored to be April's Featured Designer at The Challenge which appears every Monday on Lesley's blog.  The themes rotate each week & we start with a sketch.
I had fun making a card to send when the recipient isn't expecting one, but this sketch works for any occasion. It was great to use a NBUS die & stamp.  Don't worry--I'll still have plenty to use in September--haha!
Foiling on self-adhesive fun foam is one of my favorite techniques & gave me beautiful PTI Small Sketched Stars.  The background was made using MFT Striped BGs with VersaMagic Pink Petunia & Aquatic Splash.  The stars are mounted to a panel of vellum attached to the plaid piece.  A blogging friend gave me the W&W die cut which I white embossed & then covered with Crystal Stickles. Thought about dry embossing the card front, but decided to use some silver thread instead.  A few PPP marshmallow sequins finish it off.  Hope I've inspired you to join the gallery.  I'm also entering SSS Work it Wednesday & SSS Wednesday. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Snowflake Flurries

It's been feeling like summer here, but I know a lot of the country has been cold & snowy.  I really don't need an excuse to make Christmas cards anyway--they're my favorite & I make them all year long.  I'm working on flat designs so I can avoid the extra postage.  PTI MIM calls for scoring & the One Layer Christmas Card Challenge is about to close, too.
Still had my much loved PTI Snowflake Flurries on the table & didn't get too creative, except that I don't think I've used Winter Wisteria & Spring Rain together.  Pretty combination that I want to use again with other images.  I scored 2 lines above & below, masked, clear embossed & sponged.  Decided to add small water splats & then brushed with Wink of Stella.  I used a ruler & black marker to define the area & like it much better than before.  So glad I got the mini Misti which I used to get a nice deep shade of the Winter Wisteria for the sentiment from the same set. Simple embellishing with tiny gems--one of my favorites.  I'm also entering at SSS Work it Wednesday & SSS Wednesday.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Joy to the World

Worked out for me to play in the Hero Arts Flickr 90 minute scramble--always fun & usually I end up with a card I like.  Guess not being able to think too much works for me.  I didn't want to miss another Merry Monday challenge, so made a card that works for both.  Charlene's challenge was to use at least 2 different stamp sets & these are both by Hero Arts: Starry Night & Merriest Christmas Wishes.  I stamped the tree image in Delicata Silvery Shimmer & covered it with spray glitter--so pretty in real life. Love the look of the little gems for the star & snowflakes. I'm also entering SSS Wednesday.

Thought I'd leave you with a picture of our neighbors' beautiful Cherry Blossoms. I've worked more than usual lately, so catching up with my blog reading. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

April Showers

Penny Black Saturday Challenge
Lots of options this month at Penny Black Saturday Challenge as our theme is April Showers.  You could make a baby or wedding shower card or feature galoshes or umbrellas.  Just be sure you use a Penny Black image.
I actually went literal so I could use one of my very old (2003) PB stamps that has a quote I've always loved. It's really appropriate for the weather where I live & for life.  I stamped PB Before the Snow (2009) in Adirondak Bottle Green (a pad I've had nearly 20 years!) using it full strength & second generation across a white panel.  The vellum was cut slightly smaller so the bottom of the trees are not covered to symbolize that the shower ended.
I used Diamond Glaze to make the raindrops--another product I've had for many years & it still comes out of the bottle great!  Are you seeing a theme here?!  I know companies need people to keep buying if they're to stay in business, but I've done more than my share for nearly 20 years!  Not that I've stopped buying & in fact the dotted die I used to stitch across the top is a new purchase from Paper Smooches. The sentiment is stamped & edged in VersaMagic Jumbo Java.  Hope I've inspired you to join us.  I'm also entering SSS MondaySSS Wednesday & Retro Rubber. Thanks so much for taking time to visit my blog.
Edited to add: also entering JUGS.
