Joy to the World

We had a great camping trip for our anniversary--lots of sun & very little wind which is fairly unusual for the Oregon coast.  Actually, this year we've had sun every trip.  I think it helps that we're on a bay off the ocean.  On the way we saw this beautiful Great Egret at the Elk Reserve.  Lots of elk, too, but I didn't get a picture of them.

Here's the view from our waterfront campsite. The sunsets are incredible!
Two Great Blue Herons were flying & landing at the river which goes along a little city park where we always take a break. Managed to get a picture when one of them landed fairly close. We have them at home, too, but I'm always excited to see them.
Got the trailer unloaded & decided to make a card I've been thinking about in my head.  I'm determined to spend less on postage this Christmas, so I'm working on flatter designs.  This card uses 3 of my very old, well loved DeNami stamps.  We used these holly stamps in one of the first classes I took 15+ years ago.  I loved the look of the line stamp not exactly lined up over the solid one & I still do.  The gold is Delicata Golden Glitz which I embossed with clear powder for the sentiment.  The green ink is PTI Simply Chartreuse.
I have lots of options for the berries, but since I was aiming for a flat card I went old school & punched 3 circles from a red cardstock scrap & covered them with red Stickles. The finishing touch was to add some texture by partially embossing with an old Cuttlebug folder--one of the first ones I bought. There's definitely an art to one layer cards & I'm getting happier with my results as I keep practicing.  I'm entering these challenges: Merry Monday, One Layer Christmas Card Challenge, City Crafter Challenge Blog, CAS-ual Fridays & Pixies Snippets Playground.  Thanks so much for all the support--your comments brighten my day!

  1. What a great view, happy anniversary! I always want to do a camper but DH is not a big fan driving something big and slow, LOL! Plus he dislike to "dirty job" too, so.... it will never happen, however, my sister will be coming to Vegas for the first time, she will spend nearly a month here and I thought a glamping might be sweet, again, just a thought, I never camp outdoor before and probably won't be able to do it as well, LOL!

  3. Wow - you used such tiny snippets . . . but snippets they are nonetheless, so it just shows you should never throw any bits away!

This is a great festive card with minimal layers for cheaper postage. Top marks.

  4. Happy Anniversary to you both Greta. It looks as if you had a wonderful trip and I enjoyed looking at your photos.

Your card is very pretty. I also find it very difficult to make one layer cards but you have done a wonderful job. I'm also a fan of DeNami stamps. I don't have a lot but they always give lovely clear images. That embossing folder was probably my first one along with the Swiss Dots and I still use it all the time. Barbxx

  5. What a great one layer card. You got a lot of detail to make it pretty but still one layer. Love the embossing that gave it texture and the clear embossing gave it shine. Even the gold sentiment is so pretty and adds to the card. Happy Anniversary and your trip looks so relaxing and fun. How nice to see a picture of the two of you. Great looking couple!

  6. Happy anniversary!!! Looks like it was a super fun trip! I always start out with the best of intentions in making flatter Christmas cards, but it never works. Never. I really like how you stamped the hollies slightly outside of the lines - it gives it a nice artsy feel!

  28. Looks like your camping site has fabulous nature and views, and it looks like you took the right stuff with you for some crafting. I packed up a bit for my 3 week trip to CA, but not much crafting has been done. I'll be excited to get some cards made once I return.
