DeNami Christmas Card

I'm trying something new with Puppy Fritz, so I can have a bit of my life back while he's learning how to be a member of the family.  Instead of leaving him loose in the house all the time (except when we eat) with me following him around, I put him in his crate for 30-60 minutes & then open the door & repeat the process.  This way I will have some time to do what I need to or want to before 9pm when he goes to bed.  He does take naps off & on, but even then I have to be where I can see if he wakes up.  This should also help him learn that he won't be left for hours at a time in his crate, which we're sure he was up until we took him home. Anyway, I used the "me" time today to finally make a card so I could enter the current challenge at Merry Monday. Housework just has to wait--LOL!  All my stamps are DeNami & the inks are PTI New Leaf & Classic Kraft.  I stamped the window on vellum & again on white cardstock & fussy cut the flower box.  After stamping the leafy pick using second & third generation stamping, the cardstock flower box was glued in place. The valences are made with the smallest Spellbinder scalloped oval & are glued in place on the white cardstock panel before the vellum panel is attached over it.  I used a white gel pen & then Frosted Lace Stickles to add the look of frost or snow.  I purposely didn't use a traditional Christmas green, but now that I'm done, I'm afraid it isn't very Christmasy.
Guess this will have to go to a blogging friend in the Southern Hemisphere.  All the papers were scraps, so I'll add this over at Pixies Snippets Playground.  I'm thinking this might qualify for SSS Monday since I started with just pieces of plain paper.
I appreciate everyone sticking with me as I try to catch up on leaving comments.  I just felt like I had to make something today or I'd go crazy!  Be assured, I've not forgotten you.
Fritz does make us laugh & I managed to capture one of the funny moments.  He took his big bone into one of the crates, burrowed under the blanket & proceeded to chew his bone.
Finally a bit more of his head showed & I snapped this picture. We've started a class & he was very well-behaved the first night. Makes us hopeful that life will eventually get back to normal, more or less--LOL!

  3. Gorgeous card Greata! I'm struggling with Merry Monday this week and might have to give it a miss - sigh. Fritz looks adorable and I'm sure you're doing the right thing with the crate training. Much as we love our pets sometimes we need to have 'me' time!

    Hugs, Di xx

We have one who loves his crate, and the other who hates it...hopefully Fritz will love it and give you a little bit of free time! :0)

  16. I think this is a beautiful Christmas card and I would love to receive it! Such a pretty and elegant card. Cute pup too, sounds like he is requiring a lot of training, but they are so worth it eventually! Mine still loves to steal pieces of card or ribbon and he is about eight years old now lol! Karen x

  19. Very pretty window box card and Fritz looks sweet in his 'cave'. I assume he is a young dog still ? I've never owned a dog, but I love all animals and always though I've missed something by not having one. Right now we are 'owned' by 2 cats, they are easier :) Take good care & have fun with your sweet furry guy, Shirleyxx

  22. What a beautiful holiday card!
It is so hard having a new puppy at home when they are "new", I spent 16 hours a day with Papi for the first 2.5 month when we first brought him home and really just let go a bit at a time until we know for sure he can be left alone and have the whole house to roam even when we are not at home. It is tough but the time will come.

  29. Hee hee! I love that you'll have to send this card to someone in the warmer climates. It makes me think of Christmas--my kind of Christmas with no snow and no traditional fuss. I love it. The vellum over the window was a nifty idea.

  30. Yay for getting a Christmas card done! I love how it turned out!

We (mostly I) have been looking at pet. Adoption sites for my son, he wants a dog, but honestly with all on my plate I want one older I think because of the training! My son walks with my neighbor every evening and it's been so good for him. She adopted her dog and she said they must have kept him crated too because he would freak out and not go in. So much to think about!

  33. That is a great photo of the little man! Wonderful plan too - it's always tough to try and undo what came before when you get a dog that's a little older. IT seems we're having similar difficulties with adapting to our new family members! We've figured out that Mimi was pretty much either in her crate or made to wear her Halti all the time - and no wonder she spent a lot of time freaking out once she was able to be 'free' since she had no idea how to do that & not be in trouble. She's calmed A LOT and finally I can work with her out & about :)
I happen to love this card - it's still Christmasy to me! I love all the white space :)

  34. Hello, hello, sweet friend! If anyone's behind in commenting, that would be me! Catching up NOW! First, your card is gorgeous, and such a lovely take on the inspiration photo! I think it's quite Christmas, and if you changed the sentiment, if would be perfect for Spring, or Easter. A pretty window box indeed! Your Fritz is a sweetie, even if he is a bit rambunctious! Chewing his treat while under the blanket is adorable! One of my schnauzers slept under the covers with me (I know, I know....she was my 'baby'), head on the pillow, just like a little person. They are quite the characters, those schnauzers!! Hugs galore~c
